Does your kitchen seem too small?

Tips for maximizing kitchen space

Know how to use your kitchen space efficiently

Many of you probably have kitchens that are very small and most likely cluttered with garbage and there is practically no space to prepare your meals. Maybe you have a ton of cookbooks that you can’t put down when you don’t need them. Some tips can help.

Your kitchen cabinets are the key storage unit. Use your cabinets and drawers wisely. With a little organization, you can make the most of your cabinet space. Here are some tips for using your cabinet space efficiently.

1. Large cabinets with over-the-counter shelves are primarily intended for your stoneware. Stoneware includes your plates, saucers, bowls, cups, bowls, and glasses. Use shelves wisely. Stack your large plates together in one corner of the cabinet shelf. Typically, your large dinner plates are quite large, taking up an entire corner on one of your cabinet shelves.

Keep in mind that the furniture in your kitchen is designed for the stoneware that you use every day. It is not the place to store your fine china or the things you normally reserve for elegant dinners when you have guests on special occasions. These items should not be stored in the kitchen, but rather in a display case in the dining room.

Likewise, your saucers and cups that go into your kitchen cabinets should be the ones you use every day. Keep everything organized. Have your large plates in one corner of the shelf, small plates and saucers in another corner, and your cups, mugs, and glasses in another. This way you will know where everything is and you will not need to search for everything.

2. Lazy Susan is a must in the kitchen. If you don’t have one, you should have one installed. You can also find Lazy Susan inserts that can fit right into your undercounter and pantry cabinets. You can even find Lazy Susans that can fit on individual shelves in the pantry.

Lazy Susan is a great way to manage your lower cabinet space under the counter. Lazy Susan is a cabinet with rotating circular shelves or a stand with a free rotating shelf. Eliminate the need to rummage through your pantry to find that can of soup, spices, rice, etc. All you need to do is store things on the revolving shelf and rotate it until you find what you are looking for.

3. The cabinet under the kitchen sink should not be used to store food. Traditionally, the cupboard under the kitchen sink has always been reserved for household detergents, drain cleaners, oven cleaners, etc.

I understand that those of you with young children may have concerns that children may consume some of these detergents, many of which are highly toxic. If you store detergents under the kitchen sink, as many do, find a small lock and chain strong enough to lock that cabinet when your young children are around.

Store your cookbooks and recipes

Some of you have many different cookbooks or recipes that you have accumulated over the years or that you use to prepare meals for special occasions. If you have a refrigerator that has an open top without any cabinets on top, you need to take two bookends and place your cookbooks on top of the refrigerator.

Otherwise, wherever you have wall space in your kitchen, install a shelf or set of shelves for your cookbooks. For the recipe cards, there are many boxes and Rolodexes specially made for recipes. You can store all your recipe cards neatly in one easy to get to area.

Counter space

Your counter space is also very important. Try to keep most of your counter space free of clutter. If you have some kitchen appliances, such as a mixer, a food processor, etc. Store them in a remote corner of your countertop out of the way of the general kitchen.

Now you have some tips on how to manage your kitchen space.
