Gay Rights and Dating Obstacles 6

If we say that 10% of all people are gay, it should be logical to think that it complicates the dating scene. No gay person, male or female, can approach a person of the same sex and start flirting. Straight people get offended if you ask them if they are gay or not. That makes it difficult to know who you can date or be interested in. That could be the main reason why there are places like gay clubs, bars and hangouts. At least in these places you can make your interest known.

Heterosexual people often make the mistake of thinking that it can be seen if a person is heterosexual or gay. That’s only true for girly gay men and butch lesbians, and even then you could make a big mistake: There are plenty of female-looking straight gays and butch-looking straight women. Even with the strongest gay radar, you can make a serious mistake, and in many cases, it is a dangerous mistake. A straight guy can easily turn off your lights if you mistake him for a gay guy.

The internet with its many dating sites made this a little easier, but you still run the risk of hooking up with the wrong person. It can be very dangerous to meet a Facebook friend in person, however that is often the only option for many gay people who live far from the nearest gay club. Even if you live closer to a gay club, that doesn’t mean your problem is solved. Gay bars, like straight bars, are not always the best place to look for a potential partner. We could say that gay people have all the normal dating hurdles that straight people can have and many more.

Due to the above, there are many single homosexuals who would give anything to meet a partner. As in the heterosexual world, meeting someone is not the only problem; it is meeting the “right” person that can be next to impossible. This is why many gay relationships are more of a relationship of convenience than a true love relationship. Critics in the straight community often refer to the promiscuity of gay people, yet it is the obstacles in gay dating that make a promiscuous life the only option for many in the gay community. I am not forgiving a promiscuous homosexual life or even defending it, but if these obstacles are taken into account, it is a little more understandable.
