Have you checked your Facebook profile since the last update?

Just when you think you have control over Facebook, change it!

You’ve probably noticed that the top line of your page now says … “Worked at ABC Company“I was really intrigued to see how many friends had never mentioned they were going to change jobs, but their company information was in the past tense. So if you click on that area to get more information about their company, you are completely left on white page!

However, it is easy to remedy. Please revisit your profile page and check the “I currently work here” box, and that will update the job to the present time.

As you know, if you want to promote your business within Facebook, you have to do it with a fan page. Personally, I felt confident that when my friends clicked on my company name at the top, it would go to the fan page I had created, but my link also went to a blank page!

I often abbreviate my company name, and this is how I had included it in my profile, but my fan page is below the full company name. Just make sure your fan page is correct and is linked to your business information at the top of your page. You may need to delete your business information on your profile like I did, and re-enter it.

One of my friends was discussing the value of Facebook as a tool to promote your business, saying that it doesn’t really matter if you link to your company’s fan page or not. The truth of the matter is, if you take the time to include your business name on your profile, you should take the time to make sure the tools offered to you are working properly.

Also remember that when you update your profile, your friends find out and quite often want to see what you actually updated, so use it wisely.
