Let’s get physical! Does Wii Fit Really Work?

Nintendo’s Wii Fit sounds like some kind of dream machine – a game console that’s fun to play but also helps you lose weight?

It all seems too good to be true.

However, with Christmas fast approaching and with some of the hype that has died down, the question remains whether Wii Fit really helps you lose weight.

A lady who wishes to remain anonymous has created the splendid blog “Diary of a fat woman”; tracks your progress as you embark on a “Wii Fit Diet,” a diet consisting of well-balanced meals along with a 60-minute workout provided by the console.

His last inning puts his weight at 225 pounds, which considering his weight on the first day was 238.8, represents a 13-pound drop between June 9 and July 20.

So far so good.

But it’s not just girls who are deciding to do something physical with the Wii; the boys are more than happy to step up as well.

Philadelphia citizen Mickey DeLoronzo gained notoriety when he decided that at 191 pounds he was carrying some “extra baggage” and set out to put the Nintendo Wii Fit to the test.

After 45 days, he had dropped to an impressive 176 pounds (that’s an incredible 15-pound loss!) And while he admits that any additional 60 minutes of movement per day for an extended period of time would result in weight loss, feel like Wii Fit made is a lot less painless.

In short, Nintendo’s Wii Fit seems to have created a superior fitness game that actually delivers results, but ultimately, you’ll only get what you put into it and your willpower is as much a part of any success as the graphics, the interface and the balance board.
