22 ways to save gas

1 Keep tires properly inflated. Under inflated tires Wastes fuel and wears down the tire tread. ALSO, check the tires regularly to see if they are true and balanced.

2 Do you have garbage in your trunk? The more the car weighs, the more fuel it burns. For every additional 250 pounds your engine pulls, the car loses about a mile per gallon in fuel economy.

3 Buy a fuel-efficient car.

4 Perform periodic tunings. A well tuned engine burns less gasoline.

5 Do not heat your car for more than one minute. Anything else and you’re just burning that expensive fuel.

6 Turn off your car. Anytime you won’t be moving for more than 1 minute, you should turn off the engine to help save gas. You can save gas by closing carefully at long stoplights, railroad crossings, or while driving.

7 Slow down. It is a proven fact that driving fast will increase drag (turbulence) and therefore increase your fuel consumption.

8 Don’t fill the tank with gas, it will probably end up spilled on the road.

9 Park quickly. If you drive all over the parking lot, find a closer parking space, you will use more gas. If it’s further, the walk will do you good!

10 No quick starts. Drive evenly at a steady pace. Jump starts burn a lot of gasoline.

11 No quick stops. Try to anticipate stop signs and traffic lights.

12 Keep your car cool. Park in the shade. When your car heats up, the fuel in the tank expands, creating vapors that rise past the gas cap.

13 Fill up at night. The pumps deliver more gas when temperatures are lower.

14 Limit air conditioning Consumes fuel. At lower speeds, open the windows or sunroof to keep cool. At higher speeds, use the car’s fan instead (open windows create resistance which reduces mileage).

15 shared trips. Share the cost of gas and the wear and tear on your vehicle is also reduced.

16 Use your cruise control, especially on flat road sections. This will prevent you from inadvertently accelerating and wasting fuel.

17 Use a lower octane fuel. Buy the lowest grade or octane number of gasoline that is appropriate for your car. Unless your car requires premium gasoline, filling your car with high octane fuel is a waste of money.

18 Replace dirty air filters. When your engine air filter becomes clogged with dirt, it makes your engine work harder and your car becomes less fuel efficient.

19 Use synthetic motor oil. This will make your engine run better and give you better mileage.

20 Don’t drive. Walk, bike or take the bus. Do you really need to drive to the store when it’s just a couple of blocks down the street?

21 Riding a motorcycle or scooter. They are cheaper and often get 70 MPG or more.

22 Remove the racks. If you have a removable roof rack and you’re not using it, remove it to improve your fuel economy by up to 5 piernts.
