Album Review: Seal – Commitment (2010)

Seal strikes again… and he sure does!

His magical rasping voice drew me into a realm I hadn’t anticipated and once there, I was truly so pleased to have gotten there. He needed it.

Loaded with a series of heartfelt ballads, carefully constructed with flawless vocal delivery, full and appropriate orchestration, brilliant production, and a very structured feel, the album was such a pleasant break from the noisy Dance pop and Hip Hop that I’m slowly coming to terms with it. trying to get. in little choice. The lyrics are so serious and the music soulful… What I’ve always loved about Seal was his amazing chord progression and how he mixes with these misplaced notes and makes them so exciting.

The first single from the album “Secret” is a ‘clean’ and ‘beautiful’ song that literally grabs you from the first note. I used the word ‘clean’ here because it’s just that from the first note. It’s not loud, its build, its feel, chord progression, delivery is very well packaged. Laid back and well produced, this song is my favorite on the album and one of the few that as a guitarist and singer I can immediately imagine being part of my repertoire!

But there are also other songs that bring out Seal in ways where I could feel that he really tries to bring out the best in himself, something he so aptly sings in the song “The Best of Me.” “You understand me”, “Calm down”. “Letting Go” or “All for Love Strong” highlight Seal’s strong vocals. I could feel the David Foster feel on this album in which he selflessly brings out the artist in all the glory and strength of him prior to production.

“Weight of My Mistakes” is catchy and introspective. It starts off in a way that you wouldn’t expect it to play out and that’s what got me and I actually did back-to-back listening. The letter was clear in which it says: “The weight of my mistake, depends on how I feel, don’t let it get you down… The weight of what I say… depends on how you feel, don’t do it.” Let it get you down…”

Overall, you can tell how honest and personal this album is. I read a bit more about him after this album and saw how the songs on this album fit with an ease that only a person who is in a comfortable place in life (not with the world itself, but more with himself) can do.

From a true listener’s perspective, while not every song hits you right away (although many do get sucked in after a few listens when you really start to pick up on the meaningful lyrics), you generally end up having 2-3 songs that have a great impact. potential. last long even after having released 2-3 more albums, like “Crazy”, “Kiss From A Rose” or “Love Divine” did.
