Going for a walk to lose weight: how to lose weight

Thinking of walking to lose weight? It can be done if you do it the “right” way! In fact, walking is a great way to burn a large number of calories while incorporating a low-impact activity into your training plan.

Walking is easy and almost anyone can do it.

What I like to do when I walk is to remember that there are a few things to consider, especially when I’m walking to lose weight…

First of all I try to go out and walk at least 4 or 5 times a week. I find that less than this I don’t see the results I want, but you also need your rest. So I recommend talking a couple of days off a week if you’re going on long walks.

If you’ve ever tried walking to lose weight, you’ll understand when I say that it’s a challenge at first to get motivated to get out there and pump your leg muscles. Those of us who struggle with any type of weight problem know that exercise takes discipline and at first it sucks!

However, it is very important that you follow a solid walking ROUTINE.

Another important aspect of walking to lose weight is the intensity of your walks. There is going to be a difference between a quiet walk on a flat road, vs. one with larger depressions and hills. It’s not rocket science.

Increased intensity = more calories burned!

In fact, I am located where I have no choice but to walk outside where there are many hills. The good thing is that the hills offer a lot of muscle work, also in both directions. Did you know that walking downhill can also help lower your blood sugar levels? And uphill helps lower cholesterol. So not only are you working out your muscles, but you’re also reaping other health benefits.

If you don’t have a walk around you with hills, try going up and down the stairs a few times before and after your walk. This will help increase stamina and strength in your leg muscles, which in turn leads to a better metabolic rate. Remember, you are building muscle when you walk. Muscles are fueled by calories and ultimately lead to weight loss.

Walking for weight loss is 100% possible and I promise if you stick to a regular schedule it will work for you.
