Star Wars: A Hit Movie Series

The Star Wars film series was created by George Lucas. It was a trilogy whose first film was released on May 25, 1977. The story is about a fictional galaxy and the characters that inhabit it. Space travel, supernatural powers, and evil forces are common features in the film. The second and third sequels in the series were released at three-year intervals. The movie titled Star Wars was a 20th Century Fox release.

All three films were well received and it was the last one that was considered the weakest of the three. However, after 16 years a series of prequels was released. They were also released at three-year intervals. The last in this series was released only in 2005. Unlike the original three movies, there were mixed reactions for the prequels. The last one was the one that had the best reactions.

Star Wars was the third highest earning film series after Harry Potter and James Bond. Including the revenue it earned from its theatrical films, the series earned a total of $4.49 billion. Due to this success there have also been re-releases of the films to theaters.

It all started when Universal Studios agreed to make the two movies Star Wars and American Graffiti in 1971. Star Wars was later dropped. In 1973, Lucas wrote a short summary for a story called “The Journal of Whills.” However, he had to write Star Wars, a 13-page treatment, as the story was not easy to understand. Later, in 1974, he added more material and wrote the screenplay. In this one he added more elements like Sith and Death Star.

In his second draft of the script, he simplified it and added “Force”, the supernatural power. With the third draft of him he made further modifications. Since Lucas never expected the film to be a series, he made more changes to the fourth draft. Once the movie was produced and finished, George Lucas decided to make it into a series.

The theme of this movie includes knights, witches, and princesses. Although the worlds created by science fiction and fantasy movies are futuristic and clean, the one depicted in Star Wars is a dirty world.

Digital cameras have been used to record these films, except for episode 1, which was shot with an Arriflex camera. The aspect ratio used was 2.4:1.
