The Cross – “The Cross” Self Improvement Base, an Amarillo outreach ministry to the homeless, burned down

“The Cross” is a self-improvement base located in Amarillo, Texas. It is an Outreach Ministry for veterans, homeless people without money, and the unemployed; all of whom want to find work. It serves the community and surrounding area, where workers can easily be fined by citizens seeking help.

Amarillo Globe’s “Police Briefs” headlines read: “Police Suspect Arson at Outreach Ministry” was set on fire on Wednesday, January 27, 2009. The ramifications of the fire, as reported by Amarillo Globe News, is the focus of this comment.

Police investigators told Pastor Gary Burd that a criminal report was filed at 3 p.m., according to the Amarillo Globe. He said “a disgruntled customer” may have burned down The Cross (also known as the “City of Refuge” Ministry of Outreach).

But there are two completely different explanations.

Casey Dumas, a pastor at The Cross Outreach Ministry who teaches the good news of Christ to our Amarillo veterans and homeless, and to all who attend his daily sermons, said she may have been set on fire by her estranged husband. a volunteer, who works there.

Or, he said, it could have been an acquaintance of the volunteer’s husband who was trying to frame her husband for doing so, in an act of revenge; as the arson investigation uncovered evidence of premeditation, rather than La Cruz burning down in a spontaneous act of passion.

The motivation, whether La Cruz was torched in an act of passion or revenge, is irrelevant to the subject of this article, which is La Cruz’s mission to help those in need and our veterans find work, and a footing. . to spread the Good News of Christ.

Dumas said the investigation is ongoing. He indicated that the City of Refuge Outreach Ministry has no plans to pursue arson charges against anyone for The Cross fire.

The cross, a foundation for Veterans to find work

I heard radio host Michael Savage disparage veterans and the homeless for excreting human waste in commercial areas of San Francisco. But he did not give any solutions to the problem, such as helping the homeless to find work, other than imprisonment.

“The Cross” in Amarillo has a solution for the homeless who need to heed the call of the wild. It has a public bathroom, which is available for:

  • our veterans,
  • Homeless people,
  • Anyone who wants to find a job.

Think of the alternative. Stinks. What would happen if “La Cruz” was forced to close its doors due to lack of funding?

Outreach Ministry

The quick response of the Amarillo Fire Department prevented further damage. “The Cross” continues to serve our veterans and the homeless, as reported by Amarillo Globe News.

Dumas indicated that the City of Refuge Outreach Ministry has no plans to pursue arson charges against anyone for The Cross fire.

The Amarillo Globe reported that The Cross Outreach Ministry, operated by Christian Heritage Church, serves breakfast to veterans and the homeless in Amarillo. Our veterans, Amarillo citizens and the homeless have a place to wait, at The Cross, while they search for day laborers.

Base of self-improvement

“The Cross” offers Amarillo veterans and homeless the following self-improvement services:

  • Daily devotionals and prayers,
  • Continental style breakfast and packed lunch,
  • Family Pantry Boxes are distributed,
  • employment advice,
  • Free referrals for multiple needs,
  • clothing distribution,
  • Distribution of Hygiene Products,
  • Access to telephone, fax and photocopies,
  • Bibles and Christian Literature,
  • Mail/Message published and announced for recovery,
  • Ministry of Attention to the Hospitalized and Imprisoned.

“La Cruz” does much more than help the homeless of Amarillo. Amarillo Veterans can apply for self-improvement assistance with:

  • Benefits,
  • advice,
  • War Trauma Recovery Program (Planned for the near future).

Several homeless people in The Cross said they have self-improvement plans, after finding work to pay for GED classes.

Burning down the Cross could be a detriment to its noble work if the decent people of Amarillo stopped making charitable donations because of the wrongdoing.

Or, the citizens of Amarillo, and perhaps even people around the world, might increase support for The Cross because of the publicity that resulted from its burning. Please support the Cross Outreach Ministry base for our Veterans and Homeless because it is a valuable service to the community and surrounding area.
