When can you start training an American Pitbull Terrier puppy on a spring pole?

We start training for the spring post by letting our pups play tug of war at their own comfort level. They will only pull so hard. If you only have one puppy, you can hold a tug of war toy and let him pull, don’t pull hard because you can make his teeth fall out.

Once the dog has had its permanent dentition for at least 3 months, you can start slowly. What we do is we put the post closer to the ground and keep putting it a few inches higher each week until they finally start to hang down.

This is not something you want to rush, as it can cause permanent damage to your dog’s teeth, so don’t force it. Some dogs love this and some don’t. If you have a rare pit bull that doesn’t like to play with a spring pole, respect that and don’t try to force it.

There are inexpensive ways to make a very sturdy spring post that I recommend. The ones I’ve bought in a store have all broken. If you take a look at videos online, there are many that show how to make a homemade spring pole for an American Pitbull Terrier or any other breed that likes to hang.

This is a very good exercise for your dog because many American Pitbull Terriers have a high drive and need this type of exercise so they don’t run around and drive you crazy. You’ll keep him happy by leading them to a spring pole.

In my experience, a spring post does not make an American Pitbull Terrier aggressive. It just helps him relieve all that energy that he has. It’s so much fun and they really love it. If you have an American Pitbull Terrier that doesn’t like to hang on a spring post, you should let him go. You can’t force them to do it.

I once had a dog that really didn’t want to do it. I left him alone. We let him watch the other dogs do it and one day he jumped on it and loved it. I guess he just wanted to do what the other pack members were doing. We do not force any puppy to train for a spring post. We let the pup decide.
