Baby Shower Cakes – How to Make a Diaper Cake Centerpiece

To make a diaper cake centerpiece, you will need the following materials.

1. 2 packs of size 2 diapers.
2. Small rubber bands, the ones found with hair accessories.
3. some baby items such as a small stuffed animal, pasy, rattle and whatever else you want to put there.
4. You’ll need some kind of wide ribbon – Dollar stores carry it if you grab it when it arrives. You will probably need about 4 rolls.
5. Shrink plastic bag, can also be found at dollar stores.
6. Cardboard background to cut into a circle.
7. 3 gift bag filling packs.
8. Fabric if you want to cover layers of cake. One meter for each layer should be good.
9. Curly ribbon.

Now you are ready to make your first baby cake follow the steps and you will be an expert in no time.

1. Diapers: Each diaper should be rolled back to front and then secured with a rubber band. Continue until you have them all rolled up. DO NOT USE TAPE. Damage diapers and they won’t do any good.
2. The bottom layer is the largest layer. Get someone to help hold them in place or use something that is round and shallow. I used a frying pan.
3. After putting them in the pan, take a piece of curly ribbon to hold the diapers in place. Make it very tight by wrapping it around the outside of the diapers in the pan.
4. Repeat step 3 with the next three layers, each getting smaller with each layer. I found pans that I could use for the other layers.
5. You can use fabric to cover each layer if you like, using large pins at the bottom of the layers so you don’t have to use duct tape.
6. Take all the small items you want to put on the cake and tape or pin them together.
7. Take your wide ribbon and wrap it around each layer.
8. Cover the round piece of cardboard with a fabric of the color of your choice.
9. You can put some gift bag filler between each layer or just leave it. Either way it’s fine.
10. Place the cake in a shrink plastic bag and tie it on top with some curly ribbon.
11. Make a big bow and tie it to the top of the cake. After tying it, you can tie some curly ribbon with the large ribbon.
12. Get the hair dryer and use the hot / high setting and blow air into the shrink plastic bag to wrap it around the cake.
