Betting over or under total points can be fun, exciting and profitable. Here, Las Vegas gamblers have set a point total for a game and you must choose whether the point total for the game will be higher or lower than this point total.

This is my personal favorite type of bet. As an NBA fan, I don’t like to root for any team other than my favorite team. When you bet on a random team, you find yourself rooting for players and coaches you don’t like and wouldn’t normally want to see succeed. Betting the point total above or below definitely makes the game more fun to watch and easier to win than other forms of betting.

Here’s a basic example. The Boston Celtics played the Detroit Pistons last night. Boston plays great defense and plays extremely well at home. The point total above or below this game was about 180, depending on which site you checked. This means that Las Vegas bettors believe the total score will be 180.

Betting on the over is a lot of fun. You root for both teams to score and score a ton. For this example, you need each team to score over 90 points, or any combination of that average. Betting on the bass is also fun. You’re rooting for strong defense and a lot of missed jump shots.

Like any bet, there are a few factors to take into account. You must know who the home team is. This is because the home teams have a better chance of influencing the pace of play. For example, in recent seasons, the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors played run-and-gun style and scored a lot of points. These teams played better at home, scoring more points than away from home. When you’re at home and the home fans are excited, it’s easier to set the pace of the game in your favor.

It is also important to consider who is playing. Injuries happen to every team during the season and you need to know which players are injured. If Steve Nash, the point guard for the Phoenix Suns, is going to miss a few games, you know the Suns aren’t going to score as many points. He’s the catalyst for that fast break offense and they don’t score as much with him out of the lineup.

So if you are new to betting or have been betting for a while, you should consider betting the total points over or under. This forces you to see the game in a new and exciting way.
