The third option Is bottled water better than tap water?

I get this question a lot. Is bottled water better than tap water or vice versa? The answer is that neither is really good for you. But, there is a third option to consider.

You see, there are chemicals and other contaminants in publicly treated supplies, just as there are in groundwater and private wells. The amount and type of contaminant can vary from place to place, but some are always present.

To answer the question; Is bottled water better than tap. I have to explain the answer to another question. Where does the water in those bottles come from?

It comes from public sources (just like tap water), groundwater, or private wells. Springs are places where groundwater naturally bubbles up from the ground. That’s not where bottled spring water comes from. It comes from public or private wells. Let’s look at some of the major brands.

Dasani is bottled by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Aquafina is a Pepsi product. Pure-life is owned by Nestlé Foods. All these bottles contain tap water. The treatment processes they use vary. In some cases, your methods actually create problems that did not exist in the source.

Poland Spring is one of the best-selling brands in the country. It is also owned by Nestlé Foods. Its sources are well scattered throughout Maine. They pump so much groundwater in Maine that state legislatures wanted to put a special tax on them for excessive water use. In some cases, they have caused small towns to run out of water, private wells to go dry, small ponds to go dry. This is not a very “nice” company in my opinion. What do you think?

So, now we come back to the question; Is bottled water better than tap. It seems to me that it is basically the same. Only worse, because the plastic bottles they use are a source of further contamination. If there is no expiration date stamped on the bottle, do not drink it.

The longer the water stays in the bottle, the more chemicals it absorbs from the plastic. Those chemicals increase the risk of cancer for life. If stored alongside pesticides, gasoline, or other chemicals in the form of a vapor, the chemicals actually pass through the bottle and further contaminate the water. Pesticides and other chemicals cause cancer.

I could write a book on why you shouldn’t buy bottled water, but let me move on to the third option.

Is bottled water better than tap water if your home has an effective purifier? No, home purification always beats all brands on the market in terms of purity, taste, price, safety, and health.

You should look for a system that removes chlorine, cysts, THMs, lead, VOCs, pesticides, herbicides, MTBE, benzene, and TCE. Those are the most common contaminants. What are these pollutants doing to your health? They’re damaging your digestive system, causing disease, and doubling your risk of cancer!

Now, is bottled water better than tap water? Now that you know there is a third option, you don’t have to worry about it.
