Why an old Honda Civic can make a great electric car

Many people have started converting a gas-powered car to an electric one through a Do It Yourself (DIY) approach. One of the most popular donor cars used for the conversion project is an old Honda Civic.

If you have an older Honda Civic, you can convert it to an electric vehicle in your home garage. Even if you don’t have one, it costs a lot to buy a used Civic. The idea behind the electric car retrofit is to remove the internal combustion engine and replace it with an electric motor. The engine is connected to the existing transmission unit. A series of deep-cycle batteries will be used to power the motor.

An old Honda Civic can make a great EV due to its compact design and light weight. Since an electric car would have to carry its own power source in the batteries, less weight is better. An electric car without unnecessary charging will be able to travel further before needing to be recharged. An average electric car with 10 to 15 battery units can go up to 100 miles before recharging. A converted Honda Civic with the same number of batteries can travel up to 150 miles.
